Ravenna beaches are called “shores” and they are administratively classified as fractions. The nine shores of Ravenna, depending on the position in respect to the channel port, are defined in Lidi Nord or Lidi Sud.
Lidi Sud (South shores) are those with the most marked tourist imprint with a considerable range of hotels, restaurants and entertainments. The farthest shore of Ravenna, Lido di Savio, borders on Milano Marittima, a famous beach resort.
The group of early Christian monuments of Ravenna is considered a world heritage by UNESCO; the most important are :
- Mausoleum of Galla Placidia
- New Basilica of Saint Apollinare
- Mausoleum of Theodoric
- Basilica of Saint Vitale
- Basilica of Saint Apollinare in Classe
Recently some traces of some Roman and Byzantine villas were discovered in Ravenna: the most famous of them is la Domus dei tappeti di Pietra, dating from the 5th-6th century and discovered in 1993 during some building works.
The recovered mosaics are preserved today in an underground room accessible from the Church of Saint Eufemia.
Since 2007 Ravenna announced its intention to apply for the title of “European capital of culture 2019”.
The city is just few minutes away from the biggest amusement parks: Mirabilandia, Acquafan, Italia in Miniatura.
